Strong Young Minds Chess Club Hosts Successful Premiere Tournament

CAMDEN, N.J. — Strong Young Minds Chess Club held its premiere chess tournament on February 19, 2026, at the OEO Community Center, located at 538 Broadway in Camden. The event began at 6 p.m. and continued into the evening until 9:30 p.m.

The tournament featured 19 players divided into two sections — Adult and Children’s. Each participant competed under a 10-minute time control, meaning players had 10 minutes on their clock to complete each game or forfeit on time.

More than 15 spectators filled the playing hall, adding to the excitement of the evening. Food and refreshments were provided for participants and spectators alike.

As pairings were announced and players took their seats, the tournament director reminded everyone of the rules before the competition officially began. Once play started, the room became nearly silent, with the only sounds being chess clock buttons being pressed and the occasional muffled cough.

After four rounds of competition, several players emerged victorious.

Sean S. was crowned the overall winner of the Adult Section, while Brayden R. captured first place in the Children’s Section.

The Adult Section runners-up were Maurice C. in second place, Frank R. in third place, and Vanessa B. in fourth place.

In the Children’s Section, Bryce H. finished second, and Bryel H. placed third.

Strong Young Minds Inc. thanked its members and supporters for their continued encouragement and also expressed appreciation to the OEO Community Center for extending the club’s scheduled time and providing security during the event.
