Empowering Minds Through Chess
Strong Young Minds Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth to recognize that every decision they make shapes their future—just like every move on a chessboard. Our mission is to help students understand that their next move should always be their best move. Through the strategic game of chess, we connect cognitive development, deductive reasoning, and the joy of learning in a way that resonates deeply with young people.
We proudly serve children and teens in urban communities, where the ability to make thoughtful, informed choices is especially important. Our program strengthens existing problem‑solving skills while introducing new strategies that emphasize patience, focus, discipline, and precision. Students learn not only how to play chess, but how to apply its lessons to real‑life situations—academics, relationships, leadership, and personal growth.

With a proven track record of successful youth initiatives, supported by research and hands‑on experience, Strong Young Minds is committed to being a valuable resource for families, schools, and community partners. We believe that when young people learn to think ahead, stay focused, and make intentional moves, they unlock the power to excel both on and off the board.

Meet Our Team
Gloria Taylor
At Strong Young Minds LLC, Gloria J. Taylor-Lee leads with passion and a commitment to empowering youth through thoughtful guidance and support. Gloria's dedication and success as a Community Health Worker at Planned Parenthood of NY City/Project StreetBeat demonstrated her passion for empowering women and improving community health. Recognizing the impact she was making, she decided to take her commitment to the next level by pursuing further education in public health. Her goal was to expand her skills and influence, enabling her to advocate more effectively for women’s rights and community wellness on a broader scale.
In addition to her work at Planned Parenthood, Gloria also dedicated time to working with youth after-school programs at Better Tomorrows Camden NJ. She mentored young people, helping them develop life skills, build confidence, and stay engaged in positive activities. This experience further strengthened her resolve to create systemic change, as she understood the importance of early intervention and education in transforming lives. His journey in the world of chess began just a year ago, yet in that short span, he has demonstrated a level of skill and passion that is truly remarkable. Brayden’s ascent in chess has been nothing short of inspiring. With every move on the board, he has showcased his strategic thinking and ability to anticipate his opponent’s tactics, qualities rarely seen in someone so new to the game. Technical Support
Guy Lee
Our founder, Guy Lee, brings years of passion and experience to helping students achieve their gaming goals, whether they are just beginning or striving to sharpen advanced skills. Guy began his competitive chess journey at the age of 13 and quickly developed a deep love for the game. After three years of training under Edward Massey, he went on to coach the Camden High School Chess Team during his senior year.
Shortly after meeting his wife, Gloria Lee, the two led an initiative to bring chess camps to local churches and community centers throughout Camden. In 2025, the organization was officially established as an LLC and shortly afterward transitioned into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
We are proud to welcome Guy’s diligence, leadership, and dedication to our team and mission.
